MEET THE TEAM

“Nigeria's value chain is characterised by c.90% small holder farmers and a few commercial processors plagued by inadequate inputs, obsolete technology, and poor financing.”
A massive contributing factor to Nigeria’s huge food supply gap (~$150B)…

OUR HISTORY
BARTER Limited is a technology start-up operating since 2020. The company began in 2019 as a IT consultancy for SMEs and MSMSEs within the UK and West Africa, successfully delivering and implementing IT transformation programmes across multiple industries including Banking, Agriculture, Oil & Gas and Mining.
SHIFTED FOCUS
The company shifted its focus in 2019 and began developing products (software applications) for clients to use to propel growth or address issues with client administration. This coincided with a trip that founder Kanye Kola had made to Nigeria to visit farmland that he had recently purchased.
THE $150Bn DOLLAR CHALLENGE
Whilst reviewing the surrounding infrastructure and plans to develop the farm, he concluded that software and digitisation could help to plug the gaps within the value chain that prevented so many agribusinesses and farmers from closing the massive $150Bn gap in the country's demand and supply for agricultural products. Upon arrival back to the UK, the team got together to brainstorm ideas, shortly afterwards BARTER was born!
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT & RISK MANAGEMENT MODEL
In the early stages of BARTER’s development we focused on a customer first approach collating a list of smallholder farms and farmers in key states including Ondo, Kogi, Kaduna and Benue. We spoke to them to understand their painpoints and simiarly spoke to several large offtakers to establish problem statements that would could then use to propose solutions.Through our in-house technology expertise we have built a data driven solution that drives our optimum and contingency pool risk model.
